भारत के दिग्गज बल्लेबाज विराट कोहली ने शनिवार 15 जनवरी को उस समय सनसनी फैला दी, जब उन्होंने भारतीय टेस्ट टीम की कप्तानी से इस्तीफा देने का ऐलान किया। 33 वर्षीय कोहली ने एक खास नोट शेयर कर अपने इस निर्णय से सभी को अवगत कराया। वहीं, ध्यान देने वाली बात यह है कि विराट का यह फैसला दक्षिण अफ्रीका में टेस्ट सीरीज हार मिलने के बस एक दिन बाद आया।
विराट ने जो खास नोट साझा किया, उसमें उन्होंने कहा कि 7 साल तक उन्होंने कड़ी मेहनत और लगन दिखाई। साथ ही उन्होंने इसमें बीसीसीआई, रवि शास्त्री और महेंद्र सिंह धोनी का जिक्र करते हुए उनका धन्यवाद दिया। कोहली ने लिखा, "मैंने पूरी ईमानदारी के साथ काम किया है और कुछ भी कमी नहीं छोड़ी। हर चीज को कभी न कभी रुकना पड़ता है और मेरे लिए भारत के टेस्ट कप्तान के रूप में यह स्थिति अब आई है।”

अगर विराट कोहली की टेस्ट में बतौर कप्तान रिकॉर्ड की बात की जाए तो उन्होंने 68 मैचों में टीम इंडिया का नेतृत्व किया। इसमें टीम को 40 में जीत, 17 में हार और 11 मुकाबले ड्रॉ रहे। कोहली का टेस्ट में बतौर कप्तान जीत प्रतिशत 58.82 का रहा जो कई दिग्गज कप्तानों से अधिक है।
भारतीय टीम ने विराट की कप्तानी में ऑस्ट्रेलिया में 2018-19 में बॉर्डर-गावस्कर ट्रॉफी पर कब्जा जमाया। वहीं, कोहली को भारत की मजबूत तेज गेंदबाजी आक्रमण को तैयार करने और उनपर विश्वास दिखाने का भी श्रेय दिया जाता है। साथ ही विराट ने अपनी कप्तानी में भारत को टेस्ट रैंकिंग में सातवें स्थान से उठाकर शीर्ष पर पहुंचाया।
